Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/1081r0 May, 2016 Further consideration on channel access rule to facilitate MU transmission opportunity Date: 2016-05-18 Authors: Jing Ma, NICT Jing Ma, NICT

Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/1081r0 May, 2016 Background As specified in 11ax, MU operation is crucial to improve the channel efficiency and BSS throughput And, HE MU operations have been specified in 11ax draft 0.1[1] AP initiates MU DL/UL transmission AP transmits simultaneously to one or more non-AP STAs using MU DL transmission. AP initiates trigger frame to solicit immediate simultaneous response frames using HE trigger-based PPDU format from one or more non-AP STAs in MU UL transmission. Jing Ma, NICT Jing Ma, NICT

Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/1081r0 May, 2016 Issue However, in dense deployed scenario, such as SS3 (1 AP/ 30~40 STAs per BSS), AP has to compete with a large number of STAs to access channel and actually gets less chance accessing the channel to initiate MU DL/UL transmission. (802.11 base line operation) An AP/STA shall invoke backoff procedure with the same backoff parameter values following an idle DIFS/EIFS period. Jing Ma, NICT Jing Ma, NICT

Proposal We propose increase AP’s probability to access channel Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/1081r0 May, 2016 Proposal We propose increase AP’s probability to access channel For example, Providing AP with small initial CW backoff window by reducing CWmin and CWmax. AP sets trigger frame to access category AC_VO to facilitate UL MU transmission. AP may be allowed to use a set of EDCA parameter with values smaller than it advertises to the STAs in its BSS to increase AP’s transmission opportunity. Jing Ma, NICT Jing Ma, NICT

SP Do you agree to add to the following to 11ax TG SFD: Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/1081r0 May, 2016 SP Do you agree to add to the following to 11ax TG SFD: Do you agree to allow the AP choose any access category for contending to send the trigger frame? The chosen AC may give to the AP higher priority in accessing the channel compared to its associated STAs Jing Ma, NICT Jing Ma, NICT
