God cares not just what you do, but how you do it

On December 18 of the second year of King Darius’s reign, the Lord sent this message to the prophet Haggai: “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says. Ask the priests this question about the law: ‘If one of you is carrying meat from a holy sacrifice in his robes and his robe happens to brush against… (cont’d) --Haggai 2:10-14 (NLT)

…some bread or stew, wine or olive oil, or any other kind of food, will it also become holy?’” The priests replied, “No.” Haggai asked, “If someone becomes ceremonially unclean by touching a dead person and then touches any of these foods, will the food be defiled?” (cont’d) --Haggai 2:10-14 (NLT)

You can’t transmit purity, but you can transmit filth

“Let’s feast and drink, for tomorrow we die “Let’s feast and drink, for tomorrow we die!” Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.” --1 Corinthians 15:33 (NLT)

Look at what was happening to you before you began to lay the foundation of the Lord’s Temple. When you hoped for a twenty-bushel crop, you harvested only ten. When you expected to draw fifty gallons from the winepress, you found only twenty. I sent blight and mildew and hail to destroy everything you worked so hard to produce. Even so, you refused to return to me, says the Lord. --Haggai 2:15-17 (NLT)

While you can’t transmit purity to others, it can be transmitted to you

For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. --2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT)

If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. --1 John 1:9 (NLT)

With the purity of Jesus comes the promise of blessing

On this eighteenth day of December, think about the day when the foundation of the Lord’s Temple was laid. Think carefully. I am giving you a promise now while the seed is still in the barn. You have not yet harvested your grain, and your grapevines, fig trees, pomegranates, and olive trees have not yet produced their crops. But from this day onward I will bless you. --Haggai 2:18-19 (NLT)

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. --John 10:10 (NLT)
