Lesson 24 A & P Hip

Aims of the Session This session will allow candidates to have an understanding of the bony prominences and soft tissues of the hip

Learning Outcomes By the end of the lesson the candidate will be able to Classify and describe the articulations of the hip joint and pelvis Be able to name the movements of the Pelvis & Hip joint Identify the bony prominences that aid palpation on a human subject Identify the main muscles on a human subject

Learning Outcomes By the end of the lesson the candidate will be able to Name the ligaments and bursae’s of the hip region

Bones of the hip region What Bones make up the pelvic Girdle? 2 Innominate bones Sacrum Watch Video

Bones of the hip region# What Bones make up an innominate bone? Watch Video

Articulations of the hip region What type of joint is the Sacroiliac joint? Gliding joint – limited movement What type of joint is the Pubis Symphysis? Slightly Movable Sacroiliac joint Watch Video Pubis Symphysis

Articulations of the hip region What type of joint is the Hip joint? Freely movable or Synovial Type – ball & socket Watch Video

Movements of the pelvis region# Hip Joint first Anterior rotation (tilt) Bilateral Posterior rotation (tilt) Bilateral Right Transverse rotation, unilateral Left Transverse rotation, unilateral Right unilateral elevation Left unilateral elevation or combinations due to tight/shortened muscles Flexion, extension & Hyper-extension Abduction & Adduction Circumduction Medial & Lateral rotation Watch Video

Bone Anatomy Iliac crest Anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS)# Anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS) very hard to find Pubis Ramis Ischial tuberosity# Watch Video

Bone Anatomy Iliac fossa Obturator Foramen #Greater Trochanter Trochanteric Fossa Gluteal line Linea Aspera – line running down back of bone in middle 1/3 Lesser Trochanter# Pectinial line Watch Video

Bone Anatomy Adductor Tubicle Watch Video

Bone Anatomy Acetabulum# Watch Video

Try and Teach the Bone Anatomy Iliac Crest ASIS# AIIS Pubis Ramus Ischial Tuberosity# Greater Trochanter# Trochanteric Fossa Gluteal line Linea Aspera Iliac Fossa Obturator Foramen Lesser Trochanter Pectinial line Adductor Tubicle Include the bones & joints# Include movements#
