What is General Education? The general education Core Curriculum at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is a set of courses required in all colleges and majors. It is designed to ensure that graduates acquire the knowledge and skill to live productive lives as responsible and knowledgeable citizens of their region, their country and the world, capable of working effectively with others while displaying openness to different viewpoints and understanding the diversity of human values. Who decides on GE courses? The General Education Committee reviews, develops, and recommends policies regarding general education to the Committee on Academic Affairs and Standards. What are our requirements? There are 41 credit hours required Courses are included in the areas of humanities, arts, social studies, biological and physical sciences, while teaching competency in the areas of technology, communication, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

Changes to Arts GE courses Some colleges were allowing certain courses, and disallowing others. This became problematic with change of majors. The courses were chosen based on the ability to assess the student learning outcomes.
