Virtual Worker Trends 4.3 million workers (3.2% of work force) work from home at least ½ time. 40% U.S. employers offer flexible work place options. Larger companies, New England & Mid-Atlantic employers offer most telecommuting options. 50% U.S work force holds a job compatible with partial telecommuting. 80-90% workforce would prefer telework at least part time. Salaried workers more likely to work remotely. 43% of workers spent time working remotely.

Virtual worker trends 68% of Millennials indicated employers with remote workplace policies would be preferred. 30% of telecommuters report being more productive working from home (less distracted). 66% of managers report telecommuters have increased productivity. 82% of telecommuters report lower stress levels. Hiring managers expect more FT staff to work remotely over the next 10 years. Majority of employers lack formal telecommuting policies.

Virtual worker advantages Decreases cost (real estate/overhead, commuting costs). Greater employee engagement (conference calls/video). Increased efficiency & productivity (focused work, lack of distraction). Greater work/life balance. Meeting current/future staffing trends (knowledge worker era, greater flexibility) Keeping older workers in the workplace (limiting negative impact of baby-boomer experience succession).
