Presentation transcript:

God’s Word Part II

Authority of God’s Word The OT has several passages that say “thus says the Lord” God also speaks through prophets All verses do not claim to be spoken by God

NT 2 Timothy 3:16-All scripture is God breathed… 2 Peter 2:11 also refers to the prophecies of scripture Many passages say what the Lord has spoken

Scripture Do we not only claim the Bible to be God’s Word but do we believe it

Truthfulness of Scripture God cannot lie It is not possible for Him to lie All words of scripture are true

Inerrancy of Scripture The scriptures in the original manuscripts do not contain anything contrary to facts-Grudem If the Bible is inerrant then our knowledge of God can be erred The Bible, when judged by the usage of time, teaches the truth without any affirmation of error- Erickson

Inerrancy Sun rising and rain falling Numbers being rounded up such as 8000 killed Quotations do not have to be exact Some language is excellent and some is not

Inerrancy Some claim the Bible only speaks of matters of faith and not accurate on historical matters even though this has been disproven Even most people who deny Christ divinity cannot deny He lived

Inerrancy If we deny inerrancy then we can lie in small matters If we deny inerrancy then we wonder if what God says is really true If we deny we make our minds a higher moral standard If we deny then the Bible could be wrong on major doctrines as well

Clarity of Scripture The Bible was written in such a way that all can understand it enough to be saved Why do some people misunderstand it then? How do we have disagreements? Wrong interpretation or scripture was silent for a reason

Necessity of Scripture Necessary for knowing the gospel, maintaining spiritual life, and knowing God’s will but not for knowing God exists. Gospel Spiritual Life God’s Will

Necessity General Revelation-All people-nature Special Revelation-Specific people

Sufficiency The Bible contained all the words God intended for it to contain. We can find all that God said on a topic and we can find answers to our problems We are not to add anything to scripture
