Modelling of pulsed and steady-state DEMO scenarios G. Giruzzi et al Modelling of pulsed and steady-state DEMO scenarios G. Giruzzi et al. TH/P1-14 Programme carried out in the EU, aiming at selection of the DEMO design 2 DEMO concepts: pulsed (DEMO1) and steady-state (DEMO2), at Pel ~ 500 MW Scenario assessment performed by iterations of systems codes and various levels of integrated modelling codes Main scenario issues identified for DEMO1: compatibility of density profile with known physics compatibility of temperature profile with 1st principle models (turbulent transport and critical gradients). plasma dilution and contamination by impurities compatibility of radiation with divertor protection and fusion performance Main scenario issues identified for DEMO2: bootstrap current optimisation non-inductive CD optimisation possible use of ITB regimes high beta MHD limits (e.g., acceptable N/4li range)
