Dead No More

Luk 7:18-19  The disciples of John reported to him about all these things.  19  Summoning two of his disciples, John sent them to the Lord, saying, "Are You the Expected One, or do we look for someone else?"

Luke 7:22 And He answered and said to them, "Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: the BLIND RECEIVE SIGHT, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the POOR HAVE THE GOSPEL PREACHED TO THEM.

Widow at Nain Luke 7:11-17  Soon afterwards He went to a city called Nain; and His disciples were going along with Him, accompanied by a large crowd.  12  Now as He approached the gate of the city, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a sizeable crowd from the city was with her.  13  When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her, and said to her, "Do not weep."

14  And He came up and touched the coffin; and the bearers came to a halt. And He said, "Young man, I say to you, arise!"  15  The dead man sat up and began to speak. And Jesus gave him back to his mother.  16  Fear gripped them all, and they began glorifying God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and, "God has visited His people!"  17  This report concerning Him went out all over Judea and in all the surrounding district.

The Daughter of Jairus Luke 8:41-42  And there came a man named Jairus, and he was an official of the synagogue; and he fell at Jesus' feet, and began to implore Him to come to his house;  42  for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. But as He went, the crowds were pressing against Him.

Luke 8:49-56  While He was still speaking, someone came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, "Your daughter has died; do not trouble the Teacher anymore."  50  But when Jesus heard this, He answered him, "Do not be afraid any longer; only believe, and she will be made well."  51  When He came to the house, He did not allow anyone to enter with Him, except Peter and John and James, and the girl's father and mother.

52  Now they were all weeping and lamenting for her; but He said, "Stop weeping, for she has not died, but is asleep."  53  And they began laughing at Him, knowing that she had died.  54  He, however, took her by the hand and called, saying, "Child, arise!"  55  And her spirit returned, and she got up immediately; and He gave orders for something to be given her to eat.  56  Her parents were amazed; but He instructed them to tell no one what had happened.

Compassion When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her, …

Compassion When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her, … The compassion of Christ was much more than just a heartfelt but impotent feeling.

Compassion When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her, … The compassion of Christ was much more than just a heartfelt but impotent feeling. Isa 63:9  In all their affliction He was afflicted, And the angel of His presence saved them; In His love and in His mercy He redeemed them, And He lifted them and carried them all the days of old.

“…a God who cannot suffer is poorer than any man “…a God who cannot suffer is poorer than any man. For a God who is incapable of suffering is a being who cannot be involved. Suffering and injustice do not affect him. And because he is so completely insensitive, he cannot be affected or shaken by anything. He cannot weep, for he has no tears. But the one who cannot suffer cannot love either. So he is also a loveless being.” —German theologian Jürgen Moltmann—

He interrupts tears with joy The presence of Jesus: He interrupts tears with joy Luke 7:13 When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her, and said to her, "Do not weep." Luke 8:52 Now they were all weeping and lamenting for her; but He said, "Stop weeping, for she has not died, but is asleep."

He interrupts tears with joy The presence of Jesus: He interrupts tears with joy Joh 16:22  "Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

He interrupts tears with joy The presence of Jesus: He interrupts tears with joy Psa 30:11  You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness,

Grief upon grief …the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; In this widow’s story there was no heart wrenching plea made to Jesus. The appeal was encapsulated within her circumstances. For this grieving mother, death was the hole where hope was to be buried.

He interrupts grief with hope The presence of Jesus: He interrupts grief with hope 1Th 4:13  But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.

He interrupts death with life The presence of Jesus: He interrupts death with life  …"Young man, I say to you, arise!"     He, however, took her by the hand and called, saying, "Child, arise!"

He interrupts death with life The presence of Jesus: He interrupts death with life Luke 6:45  "The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.

Jesus speaks life Joh 6:68  Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.

For the believer, death has no sting, no victory, no power. 1Co 15:55-57 "O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?" 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; 57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. It is less than a momentary interruption.
