What it means to be a part of the Australian culture Tafale Tugaga

AUSTRALIA & HOW WE LIVE It is just 200 years since European settlers first landed in Australia. From that time, people have gone there to live from many other countries. A great mixture of peoples joined the original inhabitants of Australia called the Aborigines. Although Australia is a vast country, most people live in the towns and cities around the coasts. Areas which are long way from cities, usually inland, are called the outback. The outback can be desert or grassland. Some Australian stockmen drive huge herds of cattle for long distances across the outback. Many Aborigines work as stockmen; they know the land and are able to find water- holes in the dry outback.

PLACES TO VISIT IN AUSTRALIA Australia is bordered by the Indian and Pacific Oceans. When summer seasons begin, Australia has a hot, dry interior and during the hot long summers, the beaches near big cities, get very crowded. E.g. Bondi, Cronulla, Manly, Bronte etc. Ayers Rock is a mountain made of red rock called sandstone. It rises about 300 metres above the plain. It is the Uluru national park. Uluru is the Aborigines’ word for ‘great pebble’. Around Ayers Rock there are many paintings on cave walls. These were made by Aborigines in ancient times. Sydney is the 6th luxury city in the world, therefore makes Australia standout to all famous people around the world to see the Australian side. E.g. Darling Harbour Bridge, Sydney Aquarium, Sydney Opera House, Great Barrier Reef and more.

SPORTS Cities and towns along the coast often have large sports centres, and sheltered bays where all kinds of water sports take place. E.g. beach cricket, beach volleyball, making sand castles etc. Football and cricket are the most common sports played in Australia. Sport is an important part of the culture in Australia, with a long history in the country dating back to the pre-colonial period. Early sports that were played included cricket, horse racing, football and rugby. Sport evolved with Australian national identity through events like Phar Lap, the Bodyline series and the America's Cup races.
