District discipline lead spring meeting agenda Brenda Kihl and Kathleen Fenton

Role of District Discipline Leads Serve as primary district-wide contact for program/area of emphasis Schedule annual district-wide discipline meetings Submit annual improvement plan and discipline meeting minutes Serve as or designate a data coordinator Serve as or designate discipline lead for periodic program assessment Formalizing and documenting a process currently in place Approved by dean Included in SACS report submitted in October Improvement plans are currently submitted for select core courses A similar process must be implemented on the program level…

SACS Program Assessment Requirements For each curricular area of emphasis, the institution assigns responsibility for program coordination as well as curriculum development and review, to persons academically qualified in the field (CS 3.4.11) Background for the creation of the discipline lead Chairs provide the coordination, but not necessarily the curriculum development and review There is a requirement for curricular review by “academically qualified” faculty This was a process the college used to conduct, but discontinued in 2005ish

SACS Program Assessment Requirements Institutions must have a planning and evaluation process for producing improvement and accomplishing its mission (CR 2.5) For educational programs, institutions must identify outcomes, evaluate achievement of those outcomes and demonstrate improvement based on the results (CS 3.3.1.1) We are living in a time where there is a demand for transparency We have complied with 3.3.1.1 at the course level, but need to focus on program level outcomes and document outcomes, evaluation, and improvements based on results at the institution level Call for Instructional assessment team soon.
