Conclusion King Henry married mostly for political purposes. His rejection of the Roman Catholic Church set an important precedent for the freedom of religion in the United States of America. After Henry’s death, his youngest child, Edward VI became king at the age of 9 and died at age 15. Mary I became queen in 1553. She was a devout Catholic and persecuted Protestants, therefore earning the nickname “Bloody Mary.” Elizabeth I came the throne in 1558. She ushered in the Elizabethan Era of prosperity for 45 years. During her reign, the Spanish Armada was defeated, and England became the major world power in the New World. http://tudorhistory.org/wives/ http://www.larmouth.demon.co.uk/sarah-jayne/wives/wives.html
