Selective breeding

What is it? Choosing the parents to breed together in the hope the offspring will be what you want.

Who started it? Lets imagine you are a caveman

And say you found one of these:

Which will grow up into one of these:

This might end well for you and your family..

Or less well:

So you keep the friendly ones and deal with the ones that are dangerous

You choose to breed together the friendly ones and over time you create a new species- the dog. Some of these animals look pretty much like a wolf still-

Some not so much:

In fact by choosing the parents we have created dogs for many different purposes:
