Formal Processes to Identify International Protection Needs and Determine the Best Interests of the Child (BID)

Foreign Boys, Girls and Adolescents with International Protection Needs Returned or Deported Boys, Girls and Adolescents

Foreign Boys, Girls and Adolescents with International Protection Needs: - Ensure access to national territory for unaccompanied boys, girls and adolescents with international protection needs; - Ensure access to asylum procedures for boys, girls and adolescents with international protection needs; - Promote asylum systems in the region (not only Mexico and the US); - Strengthen the identification and referral of boys, girls and adolescents with international protection needs in relevant protocols; - Strengthen the identification of international protection needs and referral of asylum seekers through consular authorities.

Returned or Deported Boys, Girls and Adolescents: - Strengthen reception procedures for returned or deported boys, girls and adolescents, with the aim of ensuring respect for the best interests of the child; - Strengthen the identification of the protection needs of returned or deported boys, girls and adolescents; - Identify protection actions for boys, girls and adolescents that cannot be reunified and/or return to their communities of origin; - Document cases of deported boys, girls and adolescents that have not had access to asylum or have been victims of refoulement. -Develop mechanisms for determining the best interests of the child.
