Process Skills – Variable Notes Quarter 1

Process Skills – Variable Notes A factor or condition that can change during an event or investigation Three Types: Independent, Dependent, & Constant

Process Skills – Variable Notes Independent Variable A factor that is under investigation and is intentionally changed during an experiment Sometimes called the manipulated variable

Process Skills – Variable Notes Dependent Variable A factor that might be affected by a change in the independent variable Sometimes called the responding variable

Process Skills – Variable Notes Constant Variable A factor or factors that are intentionally kept the same during an experiment Sometimes called the controlled variable

Process Skills – Variable Notes Example A student wants to see how the slope of a hill affects the speed of an object going down the hill. Independent Variable: Slope of the hill Dependent Variable: Speed of the object Constant Variable: Object, Distance the object is to travel, Same type of hill (pavement/grass/etc.)
