F Mass, Weight and Gravity (A) Name: ______________________ m g ____________________ is the amount of matter in an object. It is not related to gravity. It does not change when you move (from Earth to the moon, for example). ____________________ is a type of force commonly measured in Newtons. It DOES change when you move from Earth to the moon, because of a different Amount of gravity. ____________________ is the force that causes all masses to attract each other. Remember: the “full name” for “N” is kg * m/s2. For all questions, show your work, and round final answers to the tenths place. F m g Formulas: F = m x g M = F/g G = F/m Your Physics textbook has a mass of 2.2 kg. What is its weight on Earth? An astronaut weighs 104 N on the moon, where the strength of gravity is 1.6 m/s2. What is her mass? Of all the planets in the solar system, Jupiter has the greatest gravitational strength. A 0.5 kg shoe weighs 11.55 N on Jupiter. What is the gravitational strength there? 4. A tractor-trailer carrying boxes of rubber ducks stops at a weigh station on the highway. The truck weighs 160,000 N. What is the mass of the truck?

A tractor-trailer carrying boxes of rubber ducks stops at a weigh station on the highway. The truck weighs 180,000 N. What is the mass of the truck? 6. If your purse has a mass of 3 kg, it has a weight of 19.6 N on Venus. What is the strength of gravity on Venus? Your backpack is giving you a backache. You measure it on a scale, and find that it weighs 400 N. What is its mass? 8. An astronaut weighs 1000 N on Earth. What does he weigh on the moon (g = 1.6 m/s2)?
