Starting in 2013, the Physics Division will accept proposals to a new program in accelerator science. Target Date is November 29, Intended to fund accelerator science, not R&D for specific projects. Collaboration with a national lab (e.g. prototyping) is fine. Some money in the Physics Division is set aside for instrumentation. Hopefully this pot will grow so that we will have a real mid-scale fund. For now, it is OK to request equipment money as part of a regular grant, and we will consider that for separate instrumentation funding. Larger projects over several years can also be funded with this money (e.g., nEDM). Contact us for more information. The process for considering these larger projects is still being worked out. MPS, ENG, and OCI have recently established a new cross-directorate program in Computational and Data-Enabled Science and Engineering (CDS&E: PD ). The goal of the CDS&E program is to identify and capitalize on opportunities for major scientific and engineering breakthroughs through new computational and data analysis approaches Physics at the Information Frontier program, which includes support for data-enabled science, community research networks, and new computational infrastructure, as well as for next-generation computing. It focuses on cyber-infrastructure for the disciplines supported by the Physics Division while encouraging broader impacts on other disciplines.
