Scientific Method Mrs. Smerz 4th grade

What is Science? What does a Scientist do? Journal Response In your journal answer the following question. What is Science? Use as much detail to describe your answer. Skip a few lines then answer: What does a Scientist do?

Scientific Method Problem/Question Observation/Research You are going to watch a short video Problem/Question Observation/Research Formulate a Hypothesis Experiment Collect and Analyze Results Conclusion

Think of a question or problem. Try to solved through experimentation. Example: Is it important for a plant to get sunlight to grow?

Research your topic of interest or problem Observation Make observations Research your topic of interest or problem

Hypothesis Predict a possible answer to the problem or question. Example: I think the plant will grow taller because it the sun will heat up the soil.

Develop and follow a procedure. Include a detailed materials list. Experiment Develop and follow a procedure. Include a detailed materials list.

Explain what happened. Include tables, graphs, and photographs. Results Explain what happened. Include tables, graphs, and photographs.

Conclusions Include a statement that tells is the hypothesis was right or wrong. Make recommendations for more study and what you could do differently next time
