INTRODUCTION Smart Metering is not a new concept in the scientific community today. Meters capable of automatic reading and bidirectional communication have been present for over a decade now. However, with recent growth in Renewable Energy sector, and a growing demand for real-time complex data (IoT) requires meters today to be even smarter. Hardware-based metering limits capability and customizability, at an ever increasing cost. This creates the need for a unified software-based solution that integrates all needs of a modern power metering system.

Conventional System

Objective ’’ We aim to establish an infrastructure which will integrate all of today’s metering needs in a single software-based solution, while still being commercially feasible.”

Proposed Solution Proposed Solution Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) provides: Bi-directional Metering Power Quality Analysis (PQA) Bi-directional Communication through PLCC Anti-theft Remote Control Cloud Database

Research / Background Motivation Methodology Proposed Solution Research / Background Motivation

COMPONENTS DAQ USB 6009 Card Intel Stick w5 pro CT-SCT 013 Step Down Transformer PLCC Module Kq330 5-inch touch display

Ct-sct 013 Current transformers (CTs) are sensors that are used for measuring alternating current. The CT will measure the level of current and feed the data to the controller. Input Current: 0~100A AC Output Mode: 0~50mA Non-linearity: ±3% Turn Ratio: 100A:0.05A Resistance Grade: Grade B Work Temp: -25℃ ~ 70℃ Leading Wire in Length: 1m Open Size: 13mm x 13mm

Step down transformer 220v-9v A step down transformer is needed to convert 220V from the supply to 9V as required by the DAQ.

DAQ usb 6009 card DAQ is used for data acquisition. Data is acquired and fed to LabView for power calculation and processing. USB‑6009 is a low-cost, multifunction DAQ device. 8 analog inputs (14-bit, 48 kS/s) 2 analog outputs (12-bit, 150 S/s) 12 digital I/O 32-bit counter Bus-powered design for convenience; 34-pin connector for easy integration

Intel Stick w5 pro The Intel Stick W5 Pro is a complete PC available in a compact, inexpensive package. It contains the LabView program and processes data from the DAQ card connected to it.

PLCC module Kq330 The PLC can transmit data via power line. The module is used for: Bi-directional communication Detecting faults and tampering in the communication line. NC/RST MODE TX RX 5.5V GND 7.5 – 12V AC-P AC-N

5-inch touch display All of the data and output will be available on a 5 inch LCD module display.

Bi-Directional Metering AN EXAMPLE The Concept of Net-Metering PROBABLY FROM EUROPE

How is Bi-directional Metering achieved ? OUR SOLUTION WHY IS IT NEEDED? HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM PREV IN PAK

Power Quality Analyzer in Labview OVERVIEW Current Smart meters don’t have integrated support for Power Quality Analysis (PQA). National Instruments Power Quality Analyzer costs over 1,000 USD. There is a built-in power quality analysis function in LabView.

Power Quality Analyzer Results of Power Quality Analyzer Results Accurate Power Quality results can be obtained in LabView.

Power Line Carrier Communication PLCC is deployed using a KQ-330 module. It utilizes Frequency Shift Key Modulation. It is a half-duplex link, allowing bidirectional communication, but not simultaneously.

Anti-Theft PLCC detects signal interruption to find power theft. Every data packet on the power line has a signature, which is corrupted in event of line tampering. Hence line theft can be easily localized.

IoT database All the data is sent from the meter to the Utility Provider, and then stored in a cloud database. This allows individual consumers to monitor and improve their power usage patterns, and limit peak usage and overall usage.

Difference in Methodology Data Capturing Transmission Labview instead of metering IC PLCC instead of GPRS/GSM Customizable Theft Control Low Cost installation Low Cost Reliable Operation

Difference in Features

Conclusion An Advanced Metering Infrastructure which offers an innovative solution to the energy management problems present in our country.
