Fig 1 Transthoracic echocardiography showing relatively large left ventricle in hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), which shifted intraventricular septum to right and greatly compressed right ventricle. (A), systole; (B), diastole. (LV = left ventricle; RV = right ventricle.) Fig 3 Reconstructed aortic arch on beating heart. (A) On beating heart. Cardioplegia spike was placed in proximal ascending aorta (AAo) and connected to side arm of arterial circuit. Proximal portion of AAo (outlined arrows) had not yet been incised. (B) On cardiac arrest. After anastomosing distal portion of aortic arch and descending aorta (DAo) and filling the deficit with glutaraldehyde-treated autologous pericardial patch, we incised proximal portion of AAo. That portion of AAo and frontal portion of neoarch were anastomosed. (AP = glutaraldehyde-treated autologous pericardial patch; BCA = brachiocephalic artery; ePTFE = expanded polytetrafluoroethylene; LCA = left common carotid artery; LSCA = left subclavian artery; MPA = main pulmonary artery.)
