Los comparativos y Los superlativos

Los comparativos in English add “-er” to an adjective COMPARISONS … used to compare 2 things in English add “-er” to an adjective FOR EXAMPLE: big … bigger no “-er” equivalent in Spanish

Comparisons of SUPERIORITY use más + adjective + que means more … than POR EJEMPLO: My book is more interesting than your book. Mi libro es más interesante que tu libro.

Comparisons of INFERIORITY use menos + adjective + que means less … than POR EJEMPLO: Marta is shorter than Juan. Marta es menos alto que Juan.

Comparisons of SUPERIORITY use mejor que means better than POR EJEMPLO: Pizza is better than soup. Pizza es mejor que sopa.

Comparisons of INFERIORITY use peor que means worse than POR EJEMPLO: Snow is worse than rain. La nieve es peor que la lluvia.

Comparisons of EQUALITY use tan + adjective + como means as + adjective + as POR EJEMPLO: The cat is as big as the dog. El gato es tan grande como el perro.

SUPERLATIVES POR EJEMPLO: Yashira is the smartest student in the school. Yashira es la estudiante más inteligente de la escuela. His bed is the smallest bed in the house. Su cama es la cama menos grande de la casa.

SUPERLATIVES use el / la + peor + noun + de use el / la + mejor + noun + de means the best use el / la + peor + noun + de means the worst

SUPERLATIVES POR EJEMPLO: She is the best singer in the family. Ella es la mejor cantante de la familia. This is the worst movie of all. Ésta es la peor película de todas.

¡ PRACTICAMOS ! The white bed is as big as the black rug. La cama blanca es tan grande como la alfombra negra. Jack is younger than Jill. Jack es menor que Jill. Martin is the tallest student in the class. Martin es el estudiante más alto de la clase.

¡ PRACTICAMOS ! Those lamps are the worst lamps of all. Esas lámparas son las peores lámparas de todas. The band has as many boy as girls. La banda tiene tantos chicos como chicas. The alarm clock is smaller than the mirror. El despertador es más pequeño que el espejo.
