Figure 1 Impact of traditional and nontraditional risk factors and CKD on cardiovascular events. Traditional risk factors are causally linked to cardiovascular events. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) also elevates the risk of cardiovascular events. The independent role of nontraditional risk factors in patient-level cardiovascular risk is less clear.
