(microlaminectomy—clip portion of degenerated disc and leave remainder to perform its normal function) The group can treat most cases without fusion; they believe fusion can cause extra wear on discs above and below the fusion. 90% of group’s cases are done as outpatient. The surgical incisions are smaller thus decreasing post op pain and increasing mobilization. Patients can usually go home the same day of surgery instead of 2-3 days in hospital. He also does outpatient laminectomies for cervical and lumbar ruptured discs.
