Get Ready for the Common Core Challenge! CCGPS GPS Topics to Explore: Common Core Shifts High Yield Strategies Text Dependent Questioning Cascade Elementary November 06, 2012 starting at 8:00

Today’s Presentation will address the following standards…

TKES Connection 1. Professional Knowledge: The teacher demonstrates an understanding of the curriculum, subject content, pedagogical knowledge, and the needs of students by providing relevant learning experiences.

TKES Connection 2. Instructional Planning: The teacher plans using state and local school district curricula and standards, effective strategies, resources, and data to address the differentiated needs of all students.

TKES Connection 3. Instructional Strategies: The teacher promotes student learning by using research-based instructional strategies relevant to the content to engage students in active learning and to facilitate the students’ acquisition of key knowledge and skills

Step Two: Let’s pass the envelop! Now let get it… Moving, Moving…. Step One: Circle Up! Step Two: Let’s pass the envelop! Step Three: When the music stops, pull a question and answer. A correct answer will earn points for your team!

Challenge Two! Let’s look at the vertical progression of our Math standards! Each group has eight cards. Place the cards in order from Kindergarten standard to eighth grade standard.

Let’s reflect… Our opening accessed prior knowledge. What did you know? (Fourth Grade) What did you learn? (Third Grade) What are your next steps? (Kindergarten)

Challenge Four Working in your teams, you are going to RACE through the practice set of math problems. The problems start with a kindergarten set and advance to fifth grade!

Challenge Five The Reading Relay! Using the exemplary excerpt, develop FIVE text dependent questions.
