Bias Monitoring Web Page Design 01 May 2019 Bias Monitoring Web Page Design GSICS Web Meeting Held on 2011-05-26 Aleksandar Jelenak NESDIS (GDWG Chair)

Meeting Outline Introduction Background information Overview of the current situation What data to offer for plotting and their plot options Design Options Discussion Conclusion

Introduction The purpose of this meeting is to resolve any outstanding issues and have GPRCs agree on a common approach for the bias monitoring web page

Background Information Bias monitoring web page design already discussed at the 2011-02-17 web meeting and the 2011 Joint Working Groups meeting in Daejeon, Korea Hiromi Owada (JMA) proposed a template with accompanying prototype files

Current Situation Four GPRCs have so far implemented bias monitoring web pages: CMA, EUMETSAT, JMA, and NOAA. These pages are hosted on GPRCs websites and use custom-developed software. All the plots are generated in advance and a user can only selected from those available. Any GPRC has issues with the current set-up?

What Data To Plot & Plot Options

Design options

Option #1: Leave It As-Is Pro: Minimal new effort required. GPRCs already have the skills and resources to maintain. Con: Each GPRC’s bias monitoring page has different user interface. Implementing any common change depends on particular GPRC.

Option #2: One System at Each GPRC Pro: More similar web pages at each GPRC. New features or fixes can be implemented much faster. Dynamically generated plots. No need to pre-generate large number of plots. Con: All GPRCs must provide plotting data in the same format. Each GPRC’s IT issues may complicate implementation. Who is going to develop the software?

Option #3: One System at One Site Pro: Only one place for every GPRCs bias monitoring. New features or fixes need to be implemented at one site only. Unified user interface. Dynamically generated plots. Con: All GPRCs must provide plotting data in the same format. The data must be publicly accessible. Who is going to develop the software?
