The Life Cycle of a Bean
Stage 1 The bean seed is covered with a hard outer shell. When water is added, it swells and the seed begins to grow.
Stage 2 The seed germinates. Sprouts emerge to take root and a small plant sprouts out of the ground.
Stage 3 As the roots grow, a stem will also appear above ground. This is called a seedling. The bean plant uses the food in the seed to grow.
Stage 4 Leaves start to grow and the stem stretches towards the light / sun.
Stage 5 Buds start to appear. The buds turn into flowers. The flowers attracts insects to help pollinate the flowers.
Stage 6 The flowers turn into pods once fertilization takes place. The seeds form inside the pods.
Stage 7 The pods dry out, turn brown and then break open to disperse the seeds.
Stage 8 The seeds fall to the ground. If conditions are correct, the cycle will start all over again.
