Say What? How to Help Colleagues Better Communicate with You Communication and Team Building

Agenda Communication Style Video Self Assessment Partner Discussion Small Group Breakout Session Small Group Activity Debrief

Self Assessment Please watch the Communication Style Video and take note of styles or traits in the video that resonate with you

Self Assessment On the back of your “Say What” worksheet, please take a few moments to think about your communication style and how it relates to the video. Which communication style do you think you use most often? What examples can you share regarding your dominant communication style?

Partner Sharing Chose a partner and share your primary style, and the reasons you chose it (please consider partnering with someone you may not know very well)

Break Out Session Please go to the corner of the room that has your primary communication style As a group, brainstorm ideas for how people can best communicate with your style Please designate a note taker We will share out as a large group after

Stacking Cups Instructions: Working in teams of three-four participants, each person holds the end of a string attached to the rubber band Your team must put the rubber band around the cup and move it to stack the cups in a triangle/pyramid shape Do not touch the cups

Stacking Cups Reflection Questions: How did that feel? Was it easy? Were you frustrated? What did you notice about your own communication style during the exercise? What made the task challenging? Why do you think we picked your teams randomly?

Debrief - What did you learn about your own communication style? - What is something that you might take away and use?
