LAHET code simulations in comparison with bare Pb spallation target experiment Daniela Henzlova

Topics of my work: simulation of the neutron field around the bare spallation target according to the experimental set-up study of the various models for description of spallation reaction impelmented in the LAHET code calculation of the transmutation yields of the 129I complex study of the capability of LAHET to describe the yields of activation reactions influence of variation of the beam parameters on the calculated results and their comparison with experiment LAHET calculations for comparison with experimental data on residual production in Re and Ta targets (for JINR Dubna)

LAHET (Los Alamos High Energy Transport Code) nuclear reaction - three stages: 1. intranuclear cascade via Bertini or ISABEL model 2. preequilibrium decay via MPM (optional) 3. equilibrium evaporation in form of Weisskopf model transport of low energy neutrons (En<20MeV) via MCNP parameters used in simulations: Bertini+MPM+default values of other parameters study of influence of ISABEL, hybrid MPM and no MPM on calculated results

Neutron field around the 50cm Pb spallation target

Weight of protons escaping from the spallation target

Effect of ISABEL INC, hybrid MPM and no MPM on the calculated neutron field

Reaction cross sections for En<100 (200)MeV -> cross section from MENDL library for neutrons (protons) for the experimental data, EXFOR library was used other cross section calculated with LAHET 192Au 190Au 196Au 191Pt 189Pt 190Ir 188Ir 195Pt

LAHET simulation results

Summary and further aims complete LAHET calculations for other isotopes produced in Au foils (up to ????????) summarize the results on isotope production in Al and Cu foils continue the study of the beam hit position influence on the comparison with experiment (with extension to include some other beam characteristics – diameter, density..) revise calculations of iodine transmutation (using MENDL cross sections)
