Unit 5 – Other forms of inheritance Not all traits are simply dominant or recessive, with only 2 possible alleles.
There are different types of dominant alleles. We have studied simple dominance, now lets examine 2 exceptions to the rules.
Incomplete or Co-Dominant?!?!. Normally traits have one dominant allele and one recessive allele…. What happens when an allele for a trait isn’t completely.
Genetic Crosses. Homozygous vs. Heterozygous  Recall:  Alleles received by offspring may either be heterozygous or homozygous  Homozyous = two alleles.

Unit 8: Mendelian Genetics 8.4 Incomplete Dominance

When an allele is either dominant or recessive. Complete Dominance

Incomplete Dominance When an offspring’s phenotype is a blend of the two parents. It is like mixing paints, one color does not dominate the other Examples: If you take a red flower and a white flower and you breed them, you get a blending of the two colors and get a pink flower. Hair color

Using a Punnett Square for Incomplete Dominance Use only capital letters because there are no real dominant/recessive traits Place the two traits onto the Punnett square, the same as you have before. Cross the traits in the square

A cross between a white mouse and a black mouse create grey offspring. a. parent genotype b. offspring genotype c. offspring phenotype Example
