Fig 1 Procedure for anaesthesia monitoring and stabilizing adjustment. The BIS values were kept within narrow limits by frequent adjustments of the propofol target. Blood pressure and heart rate were allowed to vary within wider limits. Adjustment of the remifentanil target was done only in order to avoid potentially serious side-effects.
