Presentation transcript:

Earth’s Orbit Earth rotates around its axis. The Earth is tilted at 23 degrees. When it is pointed toward the sun that half of the Earth has summer. When it is tilted away that half has winter.

The Sun the visible surface is known as the photosphere, the chromosphere is the next layer, and finally the outermost layer, the corona.

The Planets In order from the sun… Mercury-Rocky but gets very hot. Venus-Rocky, the hottest planet. Earth – Just right Mars (most like Earth as it has an atmosphere, is about the same size, somewhat normal temperatures, and signs that it used to have a lot of water which might indicate life. Mercury and Venus are too hot for life) Jupiter – Gas giant and many moons due to large gravity. Saturn - Gas giant and many moons due to large gravity. Uranus - Gas giant and many moons due to large gravity. Neptune - Gas giant and many moons due to large gravity.

Smaller than a planet, bigger than a mouse Like planets, asteroids revolve around the sun, but are smaller than planets. A meteor is an object moving through the atmosphere. A meteoroid is an object moving through space. A meteorite is an object that has hit the surface of the earth. Comets are made of ice and dust. When Earth passes through the tail or orbit of a comet will often see a meteor shower, or shower of “shooting stars.” Dwarf planets are larger than meteoroids or asteroids but do not “control their orbit.” Other stuff gets near than.

So… Pluto is no longer a planet. It is a dwarf planet. Not a comet, meteoroid or asteroid.
