How to Connect the Panasonic TVs to the Panasonic VCR/DVD Players

Analog Video There are four ways to connect the video from the VCR/DVD player to the TV. All four use an analog video signal. The first is via the coax cable which combines the video and audio over the same cable. It is the poorest quality of the four methods of video connection. Simply connect the VCR output to the TV input. TV VCR/DVD player

Analog Video The second method of video connection is the composite connection which only carries a video signal. The audio is carried over separate cables. It is higher quality than the coax connection and can be used on either the VCR or DVD modes. TV Just connect the video output here. To the video input on the TV. VCR/DVD player This composite video input is used for VHS tape dubbing and other purposes.

Analog Video The third method of video connection is called S-Video. Like composite it requires only one cable but does not carry audio over the cable. It is much higher in quality than coax or composite but only the DVD player function can support it. TV Connect the DVD player S-video output here with an S-Video cable to the TV S-video input here. VCR/DVD player Make sure to put the video select switch to the left for S-Video

The fourth type of video connection is called component. Unlike the other three types, component video utilizes three different cables to send the video signal. Once again the audio is sent independently on separate cables. Component video is higher in quality than S-Video and is the highest quality video connection that our TVs and VCR/DVDs can handle. Analog Video To connect the component video you will need to connect three cables… …one here… …and one here. Make sure to put the video select switch to the right for component Video output. VCR/DVD player TV

Analog Audio The audio is much simpler than the video. Both the TV and VCR/DVD use the same analog audio connection. The VCR/DVD players send analog audio to the TV in stereo over a separate left and right audio channel. This connection will work for the composite, S-Video and component video connections. Remember that the coax connection does not need separate audio cables because it carries the audio over the same wire. To connect analog audio when using either the composite or S-Video connections you must connect from either one of these two audio outputs To these audio inputs. To connect audio when using component video use these inputs. TV VCR/DVD player These two are left and right audio inputs for VHS tape dubbing and other purposes.

Digital Audio The other audio connection that the VCR/DVD player has is a digital fiber optic cable capable of carrying all the audio channels on a DVD simultaneously. It is only supported in DVD mode. Unfortunately the TVs we have do not support fiber optic connections so you will probably never use it while you work in the Media Center. VCR/DVD player
