Exploring Polygons. What are polygons? A polygon is a closed figure made by joining line segments, where each line segment intersects exactly two others.
Polygons Polygons are many-sided closed figures, with sides that are line segments. Polygons are named according to the number of sides and angles they.

Perimeter word problem

Name of the Polygon and sides . S.No Name of the Regular Polygon Number of sides 1 3 sides are equal Regular Triangle 2 4 sides are equal Regular Quadrilateral 3 Regular Pentagon 5 sides are equal 4 Regular Hexagon 6 sides are equal 5 Regular Heptagon 7 sides are equal 6 Regular Octagon 8 sides are equal 7 Regular Nonagon 9 sides are equal 8 10 sides are equal Regular Decagon

Example 1: Perimeter of square is 40 cm Example 1: Perimeter of square is 40 cm. what is the length of each sides ?. Solution: Given , Perimeter of square P = 40 cm. P = 4 x S (by using Perimeter of square formula.) 40 = 4 x S ( given P = 40cm) S = S = 10 cm Ans: Length of each sides S = 10 cm

Example 2 The perimeter of regular pentagon is 35 cm Example 2 The perimeter of regular pentagon is 35 cm. Find the length of side ? Solution : Perimeter of regular pentagon P= 35 cm regular pentagon is pentagon whose 5 sides are equal. Perimeter of regular pentagon P = S + S + S + S + S 35 = 5 x S ( P = 35 )  S = S = 7 cm. Ans: The length of sides S = 7 cm.

Example 3: The perimeter of a regular hexagon is 24cm Example 3: The perimeter of a regular hexagon is 24cm. Find the sides of regular hexagon?. Solution : Given, Perimeter of regular hexagon P = 24 cm regular hexagon is a hexagon whose 6 sides are equal. Perimeter of regular hexagon = S + S + S + S + S + S P = 6 x S  24 = 6 x S ( P=24 ) S = Ans: Sides of regular hexagon S = 4 cm.

Example 4: The perimeter of 2 combined hexagon figure is 50 cm Example 4: The perimeter of 2 combined hexagon figure is 50 cm. Find the length of sides ? Solution : given, perimeter of 2 combined hexagon figure P = 50 cm regular hexagon is hexagon whose 6 sides are equal. perimeter of 2 combined hexagon figure P = S + S + S + S + S+ S+ S+ S+ S + S P = 10 S  50 = 10 x S ( P = 35 ) S = S = 5 cm. Ans: The length of sides S = 5 cm.

Example 5: Length of rectangle is 3 times breadth Example 5: Length of rectangle is 3 times breadth. The perimeter of rectangle is 40 cm. what is the length and breadth?. Solution: Let l be the length of rectangle Let b be the breadth of rectangle Given , Length of rectangle = 3 times Breadth l = 3 x b l = 3 b Given , Perimeter of rectangle P = 40 cm. 2 ( l + b) = 40 cm. (l = 3b) 2 ( 3b+b) = 40 cm

Cont… 2 (4b) = 40 cm 8b = 40 cm b = b = 5 cm Breadth Length l = 3 x b l = 15 cm Ans: Length of rectangle l = 15 cm Breadth of rectangle b = 5 cm

Example 6: A copper wire is in the form of a circle with radius 35 cm Example 6: A copper wire is in the form of a circle with radius 35 cm. It is bent into a square. Determine the side of the square. Solution : Given: Radius of a circle , r = 35 cm. Since the same wire is bent into the form of a square , Perimeter of the circle = Perimeter of the square  rule 1 Perimeter of the circle = 2r units. = = 2 x 22 x 5 P = 220 cm. Let ‘a’ be the side of a square. Perimeter of a square = 4a units (using rule 1) 220 = 4a a = Ans:  The side of the square = 55 cm 5

Try these A copper wire is in the form of a circle with radius 88 cm. It is bent into a square. Determine the side of the square. Perimeter of regular pentagon is 40 cm. Two such regular pentagon are joined together. Find the perimeter of the combined shape Side of regular pentagon is 5cm. Two such pentagon is joined together. Find the perimeter of regular pentagon
