PART 1 (Compulsory) Writing a reply. A reply to a letter or e-mail from a friend in informal style. (planning a trip) A formal reply to a formal letter or e-mail. (organising a trip for a school) Apologise, compare, describe, explain, express opinions, justify, persuade, recommend, suggest something. Include all the information and notes given. 120-150 words

FORMAL LETTER / E-MAIL You are given an article to read from a newspaper. You write to the newspaper disagreeing with the article. You write to complain about something. You write making suggestions about something. You write requesting information. You write giving information. You write requesting permission.

INFORMAL LETTER / E-MAIL More relaxed language Send them to friends or relatives Abbreviations

STORY Answer the question Give a title At least 4 paragraphs Intro. Background (past continuous) 2+3. Main part of the story (past simple) Past perfect (secondary actions) Climax of the story Not as formal as an e-mail but contractions Direct Speech

ARTICLE Answer the question Give a title At least 4 paragraphs Last paragraph: conclusion / summary Give your oppnion if appropriate Rethorical questions Speak directly to the reader (“Let’s imagine…”)

ESSAY Answer the question 4-5 paragraphs 1- general introduction to the subject 2,3,4- development of ideas/argument, give reasons to support them 5- conclusion Formal language (no contractions) Examples are possible Personal opinion in the last paragraph

REPORT Answer the question At least 4 paragraphs Each paragrah has a heading (Introduction, Conclusion, Advantages…) To: From: Subject: Formal language (no contractions) Recommendations in the last paragraph
