AGEP: Challenges and Opportunities AGEP National Conference Hyatt Regency Chicago March 19-21, 2009

AGEP Accomplishments In FY 98: MGE institutions graduated approximately 9% of URM STEM PhDs From 2002 to 2006: AGEP institutions account for 56% of STEM PhDs awarded to URMs at 104 institutions MGE awards in FY 1998 graduated over 9% of the minority PhDs in STEM. Source: AIR, 2009

Minority PhD Production From 2002 to 2006: AGEP institutions represent 39% of the institutions that awarded PhDs to Blacks and Hispanics in STEM and … AGEP institutions represent 77% of the top producers of Black PhDs & 81% of Hispanic PhDs Source: AIR, 2009

Engineering PhDs From 2002 to 2006: 64% (646) of URM PhDs in Engineering were awarded at 73 AGEP institutions Among Hispanics, 63% (311) were awarded at 56 AGEP institutions Among Blacks, 66% (305) were awarded at 62 AGEP institutions

Math and Statistics PhDs From 2002 to 2006: 64% (125) of the URM PhDs in Math & Statistics were awarded at AGEPs Of the 82 awarded to Blacks, 70% (57) were awarded at AGEPs Of the 104 awarded to Hispanics, 62% (64) were at AGEPs

Physical Science PhDs From 2002 to 2006: Of the 321 PhDs in Physical Sciences earned by Blacks, 60% (193) were awarded at AGEPs Of the 429 PhDs earned by Hispanics, 66% (284) were awarded at AGEPs
