Math Station Rotations Promoting Blended Learning Mrs. Ryan’s 3rd Grade Math Station Rotations Promoting Blended Learning bit.ly/2BFcxA5 Provide differentiated instruction and flexibility in their pace and learning styles Meet needs of my diverse classroom - IEPs, RTIs, Behaviors, students needing challenge 4 stations - teacher led, hands on, collaboration and technology Essential that you develop a classroom culture that promotes growth mindset

Chart of Station Rotations Each day, the groups are provided a rotation schedule.

Establishing and Promoting A Growth Mindset Classroom Establishing a safe classroom environment for students to share their ideas, receive positive feedback and encouraged to show growth mindset

Establishing Classroom Environment Behaviors and Expectations Expectations for behaviors at each station Table Tents for each station- expectations Student role - Manager - review expectations on table tents, encourage group members, promote accountable talk, clean up before rotation Use the IPad to videotape the students’ behaviors and interactions as you introduce each station Have self reflections and class discussion providing feedback to prompt growth mindset

Teacher Led Station Student Reflection Students guide the pace and instruction of the lesson Table tent expectation Problem set taught at this station and placed in HW folder as a reference for students’ to complete HW Begin station rotations with this station

Technology Station Recommend introducing this as the 2nd station Students are completing zearn - directly related to our day’s problem set lesson IReady program Prodigy also used to provide differentiated reinforcement as well as other interactive games on our google classroom

Independent Station Student Reflection Recommend introducing this as the 3rd station Offices are used to ensure focus on task Differentiated tasks provided based on students’ needs Exit tickets assessing previous day’s lessons provided Application problem related to daily lesson Math in Minutes task bulletin board - assesses concepts for all of 3rd grade math common core standards

Hands-On Station Student Reflections Recommend introducing this as the 4th station Students work with partners to reinforce task learned at daily problem set

Beginning the Collaboration for the Problem Solving Station COOPERATIVE PROBLEM SOLVERS EXPECTATIONS: *Bring a whiteboard and marker *Read the problem *Review the Thinking and Feedback Protocol *Show your mathematical thinking on your whiteboard *Share your whiteboard with your group using our protocol. *After sharing, display your thinking on the easel and ask another peer to share. Teacher led when you begin teaching this station- if possible have teacher led station be one that you can monitor with student interaction and cooperative learning - allowing teacher to work at this station (floating between teacher led and this station) Teacher model - Begin teaching this station by having students work cooperatively to solve a problem together Engages all students Provides collaboration Accountable math talk

Using the Thinking and Feedback Protocol Looking (1 min) Noticing (2 mins) I see. . . I notice that. . . Listening (1-2 mins) Wondering (2 mins) “How did you…?” “I wonder why you… ?” Suggesting/Inspiring (2 mins) “You might try…” “Did you think about…?” “I am inspired to….” “I might try…” Insert video of students doing this protocol - emailed Dianne the clip

Solving 1 and 2 Step Word Problems Checklist Solving 1 and 2 Step Word Problems Steps 1 2 Used a strategy that would lead to a solution Made a drawing to match strategy and problem Labeled drawing correctly Wrote a math sentence (equation) Wrote a statement(s) Solved problem correctly Total Video of students doing the

Student Videos Using the Thinking and Feedback Protocol

Showcasing Our Growth Mindset Questions for Student Video Reflections What did we learn? What were some of our challenges? How did these stations help us in math? Acknowledging how students met standards and expectations not just a grade 1,2,3 or 4 on the paper Showcase work as well as provide goals for students Video clips of students’ reflections Exit tickets and application problems to display meeting standards
