Cycles in Nature Chapter 13 Section 2 Notes

Earth’s Biosphere Earth’s biosphere contains a fixed amount of water, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and other materials that cycle through the environment and are reused by different organisms.

Water Cycle Water cycle – how water moves from the Earth’s surface to the atmosphere and back to the surface again. Evaporation – when liquid water changes into water vapor and enters the atmosphere. Condensation – the process of changing water from a gas to a liquid. When water drops become large and heavy enough, they fall to the ground as rain or other precipitation.

The sun is warming the surface of the water. When a cloud gets full it begins to rain. This is called precipitation. The water vapor cools down and forms clouds. This is condensation. This is called The Water Cycle Water is a liquid. As the water gets warmer it changes and begins to evaporate. The warm water changes into a gas called water vapor and rises up. Water Evaporation

Nitrogen Cycle Nitrogen Cycle – the transfer of nitrogen from the atmosphere to the soil, to living organisms, and back to the atmosphere.
