What happens when we answer the call? The 2nd Year What happens when we answer the call?

Matthew 10:1 Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness.

Jesus gives them authority Why authority?

Jesus gives them authority Authority to do what? Cast out evil spirits

Jesus gives them authority Authority to do what? Heal every kind of disease & illness

The authority – the ability to minister in Jesus’ name or place was given to His disciples

Matthew 10:2-4 Here are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (also called Peter), then Andrew (Peter’s brother), James (son of Zebedee), John (James’s brother), 3 Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew (the tax collector), James (son of Alphaeus), Thaddaeus, 4 Simon (the zealot ), Judas Iscariot (who later betrayed him).

Why was Jesus giving them this authority? He always gives us what we need to do the job set before us

Matthew 10:5-6 Jesus sent out the twelve apostles with these instructions: “Don’t go to the Gentiles or the Samaritans, 6 but only to the people of Israel—God’s lost sheep.

Jesus sent them out to minister to Israel They were not meant to just follow

Jesus sends them out to minister to Israel They had to see their role & their ability to fulfill that role

Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near. Matthew 10:7 Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near.

They had to proclaim the Kingdom of God What is the Kingdom of God?

Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received!

They were to offer the proof of their authority That proof can only come from the Messiah!

What can we learn from this today?

Do we have the same authority? Mark 16:15- And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”

Do we have the same authority? Romans 15:19- They were convinced by the power of miraculous signs and wonders and by the power of God’s Spirit. In this way, I have fully presented the Good News of Christ from Jerusalem all the way to Illyricum.

Do we have the same authority? Ephesians 3:20- Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

Do we have the same authority? Philippians 1:6- And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

You have that same authority!

Are we using our authority to proclaim the Kingdom? Are we using what we’ve been given?

Are we showing the world the power & love of Jesus? We have to believe we can be used We just have to be willing to be used
