Chapter 10 Extension Objective: To find missing dimensions Finding Surface Areas of Composite Figures

Example 1 Finding Missing Dimensions (Prisms & Cylinders) A) A triangular prism has base edges 4 cm, 5 cm, and 6 cm long. Its lateral area is 300 𝑐𝑚 2 . What is the height of the prism?

B). The volume of a cylinder is 600π 𝑐𝑚 3. The radius B) The volume of a cylinder is 600π 𝑐𝑚 3 . The radius of a base of the cylinder is 5 cm. What is the height of the cylinder? C) The volume of a cylinder is 135π 𝑐𝑚 3 . The height of the cylinder is 15 cm. What is the radius of a base of the cylinder?

Example 2 Finding Missing Dimensions (Cones & Pyramids) A) The lateral area of a pyramid with square base is 240 𝑓𝑡 2 . Its base edges are 12 feet long. Find the height of the pyramid.

B). The lateral area of a cone is 48π 𝑖𝑛 2. The radius. is 12 in B) The lateral area of a cone is 48π 𝑖𝑛 2 . The radius is 12 in. Find the slant height. C) The volume of a cone is 82,418π 𝑐𝑚 3 . Its diameter is 203 cm. What is its height?

Example 3 Finding Missing Dimensions The length of a side of the base (s), slant height, height, lateral area, and surface area are measurements of a square pyramid. Given two of the measurements, find the other three to the nearest tenth. A) s = 3 in., S.A. = 39 𝑖𝑛 2

The length of a side of the base (s), slant height, height, lateral area, and surface area are measurements of a square pyramid. Given two of the measurements, find the other three to the nearest tenth. B) h = 8 m., l = 10 m

Example 4 Finding Missing Dimensions Circumference, radius, slant height, lateral area, and surface area are measurements of a cone. Given two of the measurements, find the other three to the nearest tenth. A) l = 10.6 ft., L.A. = 33.3 𝑓𝑡 2

Circumference, radius, slant height, lateral area, and surface area are measurements of a cone. Given two of the measurements, find the other three to the nearest tenth. B) C = 44 in., L.A. = 176 𝑖𝑛 2

Example 5 Surface Area of Composite Figures Find the surface area to the nearest whole number. A)

Find the surface area to the nearest whole number. B)
