MOTION - A CHANGE IN POSITION MEASURED BY DISTANCE AND TIME. SPEED - THE RATE AT WHICH AN OBJECT MOVES. VELOCITY - SPEED AND DIRECTION OF A MOVING OBJECT.
Warm Up. Constant Velocity  CONSTANT VELOCITY = NO CHANGE IN VELOCITY  Definition of acceleration = CHANGE IN VELOCITY over a period of time  CONSTANT.

Distance vs. Time Graphs Describing Real Life Graphs

Directions With your partner, match the descriptions 1-4 with the correct graph a-d. Be prepared to explain and defend your answer.

Answers 1 = C 2 = A 3 = D 4 = B Traveling at constant speed (increasing linear graph /straight line going up and to right) Car coming back (decreasing linear graph / straight line going down to right means ending back at starting distance) Speed is decreasing (curved line is still traveling away but slowly going to horizontal/stopped) Car is stopped (horizontal line is object at rest/ no change in distance over time)

What is happening in each graph? George and his family were watching a movie and eating popcorn. Each family member had a bowl with the same amount of popcorn. The graphs below all show the amount of popcorn remaining in the person’s bowl over a period of time.
