Creating Bar Diagram

Introduction A Bar Graph (also called Bar Chart) is a graphical display of data using bars of different heights. A Bar graph consists of equally – spaced parallel bars (Horizontal or vertical) whose lengths / heights are proportional to the number of items given.

Example: The total number of runs scored by a players in one day match in India is given. Draw a bar diagram Players 1 2 3 4 5 6 No. of runs 30 60 15 50 70 45

Drawing Bar Graphs Step 1: Draw two lines which are perpendicular to each other. One of them is horizontal and the other one is vertical

Runs scored by a players Step 2: Give a suitable title and label the horizontal and vertical lines. Title -------- Runs scored by a players Horizontal line -------- Players Vertical Line -------- No. of runs Runs scored by a players NO . Of runs Players

Runs scored by a players Step 3: Choose a suitable scale for ‘No of runs”. Choose a scale such that after writing few multiples we cross the max value 70. Scale chosen : 1 unit =10 runs. Since we get max value 70 in the 7th step. NO . Of runs Players Runs scored by a players 0 10 20 30 40 50 60 70

Runs scored by a players Step 4: Draw equal width bars for each player with height equal to ‘No of runs’ Players 1 2 3 4 5 6 No. of runs 30 60 15 50 70 45 0 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 NO . Of runs Players Runs scored by a players 15 is between 10 and 20 45 is between 40 and 50 1 2 3 4 5 6

Try These Construct a bar diagram to represent the following information. Number of absentees in a week in a corporation high school is given: Class 6 7 8 9 10 Absentee 12 15
