Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde was born on the 13 October 1854 and died on the 30 November 1900 . He was an Irish playwrigth , poet and author of numerous short stories and one novel . He became one of the most successful playwrights of the late Victorian era in London . He was one of the greatest celebrities of his day . Osacar suffered a dramatic downfall and was imprisoned for two years and did hard labour after being convicted of gross indecency with other man ( He was homosexual ) . After , Oscar was released from prison , he taken the boat for Dieppe by the night ferry . He nerver returned to Ireland or Britain . The Picture Of Dorian Gray is the only published novel by Oscar Wilde who appeared in Lippincott’s Monthly Magazine on the 20 June 1890 . The picture is considered a work of classic gothic horror fiction . The novel begins with Lord Henry observing the artist Basil Hallward painting the portrait of a young and beautiful man named Dorian Gray . Dorian arrives later and meet Lord Henry Wotton . After have the Lord Henry Wotton’ view he thinks that the beauty is the only good aspect of the life . A day Dorian realises his beauty will disappear ans he says he wants gives his soul and in echange he wants to remain young but his portrait becomes old . A day Dorian meets the actress Sybil Vane when she played in Williams Shakespeare’s theatre . He approaches her and proposes marriage . Sybil thinks he is the ‘’ Prince Charming ‘’ so she speaks about him at her mother and her brother but James her protective brother says her that if the ‘’ Prince Charming ‘’ hurts her , he will kill him . Dorian invites Lord Henry and Basil for see Sybil who is playing Romeo and Juliet but this night she’s playing very badly and Dorian rejects her . When he returns at home he can see that his portrait has changed . When Dorian makes bad things his portrait degraded . He decides to reconsil with Sybil but Lord Henry comes to say that Sybil has killed with prussic acid ; but Dorian is unaffected . With the encouragements of Lord Henry Wotton , Dorian realizes that the vice is the best thing in the life and he needs nothing else . His story begins with the desent into the low society of London . His portrait becames old and more vicious but Dorian , him doesn’t change .
