President Hoover Because of the Great Depression do you think Hoover was popular, or unpopular as a President?

1932 Presidential Election Hoover was very unpopular, so when he tried to run for re-election in 1932, he lost against Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt During the campaign for President, Roosevelt brought up all the bad things that were happening around America. He gave people hope that with him as President, America would get out of this down time in the economy.

The New Deal Immediately after Roosevelt was elected, he started a new program to jump-start the economy called the New Deal The New Deal lasted from 1933 - 1936. The New Deal was a bunch of programs that gave people jobs and helped create a better future for Americans.

New Deal - Programs The New Deal was made up of three big programs that gave people jobs: The Works Progress Administration, Civilian Conservation Corps, and the Tennessee Valley Authority. Why were these programs so important to a lot of people in America?

Works Progress Administration (WPA) The Works Progress Administration was the largest New Deal program. The WPA helped build roads, highways, and remodel old buildings. It also gave seamstress jobs to women.

WPA The WPA employed 2-3 million Americans The WPA spent over $11.4 billion improving infrastructure around America How did the WPA help Americans?

Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) During the Great Depression, the Tennessee Valley was in bad shape. People were suffering from Malaria, people were very poor, and many didn’t have electricity.

Tennessee Valley

Tennessee Valley Authority The TVA was created to create huge dams that would stop floods and give people electricity all over the South Eastern part of the U.S.A. Why was the TVA good for the South Eastern part of the U.S.A.?

The Civilian Conservation Corps The CCC was designed to give young unemployed men jobs. The goal of the CCC was to conserve (save) natural resources such as large forests and parklands. Young men in the CCC planted trees, helped make the soil better in the Dust Bowl so people could once again plant crops. The CCC also protected the parklands.

CCC How did the CCC help those people who were suffering in the Dust Bowl?

CCC
