WELCOME TO CHIROPRACTIC A NEW PARADIGM OF HEALTH New Patient Orientation Health Class Let the journey begin…

WHICH PATH TO TAKE

DAILY ACTIVITIES POSTURE SLEEPING BENDING TWISTING DRIVING SITTING

SLEEPING:

Sleeping Best bed is a Tempur Pedic Pillow should support neck In general, firmer and flatter is better when selecting a new bed. Best position to sleep is on your back with one pillow. Worst position to sleep is on your stomach with your head turned. By age 45 you have slept for approx. 15 years.

Bending Do some light stretching in the morning Keep one leg in front of the other to bend down Lift with your legs while keeping your back straight and supported Never twist and bend

Driving Good: Straight head held high, Shoulders back, Chest out, Stomach tucked in, Back supported, and Legs supported. Thigh to back is at 95 degrees. Bad: Tilted head and/or body, Protruding head (too far forward), Retracted head (too far back), Rounded shoulders, Rounded upper back, and Rounded lower back

Computer Ergonomics

Posture LET’S CHECK EACH OTHER!!!

Other tips Phone: use a headset, not your shoulder to hold the phone. Purses: keep under 10lbs, and alternate the shoulders you carry them on. Wallets: never to be carried in the back pockets. Get rid or your LAZY BOY’s, or a at least add a lumbar support.

IS LOOKING GOOD OR FEELING GOOD REALLY HEALTH? What Is Health? Most Common Answer: Health is “looking good or feeling good” IS LOOKING GOOD OR FEELING GOOD REALLY HEALTH?

World Health Organization: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity" IN OTHER WORDS: Restoring our health is more than just getting rid of symptoms

Our Definition of Health: Health is The state of optimal function where all organs are functioning at 100% of their potential.  How do you know if you are functioning at 100%?

Detecting and Correcting SPINAL SUBLUXATIONS 5 ESSENTIALS OF HEALTH PROPER EXERCISE PROPER NUTRITION PROPER REST POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE ____________________________________ 5. PROPER NERVE FLOW Detecting and Correcting SPINAL SUBLUXATIONS When the Spine and Nervous System are functioning at optimum potential, then the brain and nervous system are capable of correcting ANY dis-ease in the body!

SUBLUXATION ~ Thomas Edison “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his or her patients in the care of the human frame…and in the cause and prevention of disease” (or DIS-EASE) ~ Thomas Edison

What does the nervous system control?

The Biomechanics of Life! ARC of LIFE Spinal Curves allow for: Free mobility of spine Blood and fluid flow throughout entire body Relaxed nervous system Ability to absorb shock Begin to form in the womb!  STRESS IS THE #1 CAUSE OF ABNORMAL SPINAL CURVES!!! Specific Adjustments Restore This LIFE Back Into The Spine & Nervous System

BOTTOM LINE…decreases LIFE! LET’S DO OUR RUBBER BAND EXPERIMENT How Subluxation Harms Causes a decrease in nerve IMPULSES Dis-ease in Body “pinches” off the nerve itself Brain & body can no longer properly communicate Chokes off blood flow to organs and tissues of the body Decreases vitality Causes early decay  pain and suffering “SILENT, DEADLY KILLER” BOTTOM LINE…decreases LIFE! LET’S DO OUR RUBBER BAND EXPERIMENT

WHEN DO YOU THINK YOU GET YOUR VERY FIRST SUBLUXATION ~ Spines should be checked by a Chiropractor within the first several hours of life

Current research: Part of the solution Study of 70,274 members in a 7-year period studied by an independent physician association compared to Wellness management. Results of Chiropractic Management & Wellness first:  62% decrease in outpatient surgeries and procedures, 83% decrease in pharmaceutical costs (2008) Wellness Care (Spinal Care, Nutrition and Exercise) Medical researchers determined mortality of patients could be predicted by their posture; “…the more severe  hunching forward of the mid-back or neck the patient died sooner.” Vol. 30 11/1/200 As the forward head posture (FHP) is progressed, an increase in the degree of compression of the spinal cord and death to the involved cells of the cord.  This influences systemic health…(Spine Journal;  Vol 30, Nov 1, 2005)

NORMAL CERVICAL SPINE Note the smooth curved arch- “arc of life” Note the space between the spinal cord and vertebra No “kinks” in the cord Healthy disc spaces

NOT SO NORMAL Note the cord being stretched due to decreased curvature, and compressed due to subluxation This will lead to decreased nerve impulse from the brain to all cells of the body.

SEVERE DEGENERATION Note degeneration of the discs, and the compression of cord after years of Subluxation Degeneration The BRAINSTEM controls and coordinates basic life functions: Breathing Stomach Heart Equilibrium Eye movement Posture BRAINSTEM

RESTORATION OF CERVICAL CURVE

SUBLUXATION ON X-RAY Note the healthy upper spine Massive Bone Spur of lower spine secondary to surgical fusion Complete loss of normal cervical lordosis Would it make sense that this individual might have headaches? Stress in shoulders? Midback pain or tightness in shoulders? Thyroid Problems? What drug or medication will correct this Subluxation Degeneration?

The Starfish story A young man along the beach throwing starfish, which had been stranded by the outgoing tide back into the ocean. There were hundreds of them to return to the water and obviously he couldn’t begin to accomplish that task. A cynical young person came along and asked in a most arrogant manner, “What possible difference do you think you can make for all those starfish?” The old man stooped down, picked up another and, as he tossed it into the water, he replied in a quiet, confident tone, “For this one it makes all the difference in the world.”
