Republican Revival Dissatisfaction with the Korean War Democrats- Adlai E. Stevenson for president and John J. Sparkman for vice president Republicans- Dwight D. Eisenhower for president and Richard M. Nixon for vice president

The Campaign Dwight D. Eisenhower- Supreme commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during WWII Promised to end the Korean War “Checkers” Speech

Landslide Republican Victory November 1952- Eisenhower won the presidency in a landslide victory. Six million more votes Republicans won control of Congress

Domestic Policy Moderate- Middle-of-the-road “Conservative when it comes to money and liberal when it comes to human beings.”

Domestic Policy Wanted to make the federal government “smaller rather than bigger.” Limit government spending and encourage private enterprise. Surplus- Excess ($300 million)
