Senior Exit Interview: Coming to you November 1, 2013

Purpose of the Senior Interview: Get students thinking about life after high school Help students to organize short and long term goals Force students to think about possible and realistic career options Help students to reflect on the things they did here that will affect the rest of their lives

The Interview itself: Panel of Teachers/Staff/Community and/or Administrators to evaluate 5 to 8 minute presentation Looking at what students have prepared but also how they carry themselves, the clarity of their thoughts and words, how realistic they are, and their level of enthusiasm Panel will ask questions about their presentation at the end A video or a computer presentation are the most workable ways to approach this – allows student to do the real work ahead of time (NO video monologues please) Students will work with Gov/Econ and English teachers leading up to November 1.

PowerPoint Ideas: Six to ten slides with bullets to guide presentation Discuss each slide for one minute and students are home free Each slide addresses a different issue – less is more when it comes to words on a screen Can list out interests, goals, requirements to get there (in detail), obstacles and how one might plan on overcoming them, etc. . Does not have to be an ironclad plan – use interests or career options that pertain to the individual. Can also spell out two distinct options (should the first one not pan out as planned).

Senior Interview example for PowerPoint: Slide #1 – what I have done to this point to get me ready for my path after high school Slide #2 – why I am interested in a particular field or occupation; maybe mention a key person or event who inspired you in some way Slide #3 – what specifically do I plan to accomplish (short and long term) to get to where I need to be? Give specifics as to what college did you apply to, etc. Slide #4 – prospects for my chosen path or career Slide #5 – obstacles that I will have to overcome (details) Slide #6 – How will I relate what I have learned here to what I will do later? Slide #7 – secondary option? How does it relate to the first option? Slide #8 – Tying it all together; What have I already done to pursue this path or what will I do, specifically, in the near future?
