Situated alongside the upper part of Fish River Canyon, at the edge of the Kalahari, Vogelstrausskluft Lodge lies within the 260km2 Vogelstrausskluft Reserve.

Vogelstraussluft Lodge The lodge is built on the rise of a small hill, about 70 km north of the usual Fish Canyon viewpoints. With an area of more than 26,000 hectares the associated territory includes a wide variety of landscapes supporting diverse plant-life and providing a safe habitat for both small and large animals. At the edge of an ancient, parched river valley, shield by dune of red Kalahari sand, the Vogelstgrausskluft Lodge is situated in one of the most beautiful locations of the surrounding territory. Its location between the high plains around Keetmanshoop and the dunes and diamond areas close to Lüderitz in addition makes the Vogelstrausskluft an ideal starting point to explore Namibia's impressive south.

The main building houses a small library connected reading room, with broadband internet connection. Curio shop, small, secluded pool with unique view of the waterhole and the chance to see wildlife. Spacious lounge and bar area and the restaurant offers an excellent traditional African cuisine and is open for day-visitors. Campground accessible from the main road each of the four campsites has its own braai area, water and electricity and can accommodate up to 10 tents around a preset fireplace. Thatched-roof bar, place to do laundry and washing dishes and a five minute walk to the lodge for meals

Restaurant

Starting at the dry pan close to the entrance of the Vogelstrausskluft, an almost plain plateau stretches to the Canyon Rim, 15km east of the old farmhouse. Savannah changes into fields of various rocks, streaked by sandy, dried out watercourses or small groups of trees. A herd of more than 60 Kudu antelopes resides permanently on the Vogelstrausskluft and the population of other kinds - including Oryx, Springbok, Klipspringer, Zebras, Baboons and Ostriches - is also growing. Namibia is the habitat for 620 of a total of nearly 900 different birds that can be found in southern Africa - and a major part lives in the dry areas of the Kalahari.
