I. Taft Becomes President William H. Taft (R) won election of 1908. Continues Roosevelt’s Progressive reforms. Not as effective as Roosevelt. Two areas in which Taft had difficulties: Tariffs Conservation Taft’s struggles will result in a division within the Republican Party.
II. Republican Party Splits Two wings of the Republican Party: Progressives- want reform. Republican Progressives - Bull Moose Party, led by Teddy Roosevelt, who seeks 3rd term in office. 2. Conservatives- do not want reform. Support Taft.
