Information on seismic SURVEY 2017

Overall Project Area

Project Purposes and Goals Create a detailed 3D sub-surface map Purposes Delineate faults in their proper position in order to: Provide information to Caltech, USGS, Stanford, Berkeley and other academics that specialize in Geophysics and earthquake studies. Provide new information for seismic hazard analysis To aid in proper positioning of pipelines, new developments and identify areas that require being brought up to new earthquake code standards Identify new sources of energy and related products *See following slides and visit the following Web Site for more information: https://www.britannica.com/topic/list-of-petroleum-products-2069393 Reduce the waste /environmental impact of unnecessary drilling. Reduce dependence on foreign sources of energy.

How is Seismic Data Acquired? Utilizing the newest design, acquisition, processing and interpretation techniques Using state-of-the-art equipment that has revolutionized the industry This new technology and our methodology have eliminated hazards that were present with the old technology.

Seismic Truck Information

Truck Energy Output In the 132,000 times, since 2009, that we have imparted energy into the ground, using this identical process. There has been no damage to homes, structures or pipelines Pipelines are rated to withstand 24 inches/second of ground movement and we limit ourselves to 0.350 inches per second. This is the reason that there have been no damages. After every survey (13) in Long Beach, Long Beach Gas & Oil inspected all of their gas pipes in the city and found no leaks and no damage. A third-party company monitors and keeps records of every location of where we perform our survey. Link to diablo permit pdf –website Link ppv sheets

Typical City Refuse Truck Truck Comparison Typical City Refuse Truck VibroSeis Truck Length: 30-37 Ft Length: 30 Ft Weight: 60 - 70,000 lbs Weight: 64,000 lbs Noise Level: ~100 Db* Noise Level: 56 - 70 dB ** * https://www.usbr.gov/uc/envdocs/ea/navajo/appdx-E.pdf ** Includes ambient noise

Smaller Survey Trucks These are about half the size of our standard survey trucks. For use on smaller streets and sensitive areas

Nodes Nodes are modern geophones that are self-contained. Link to node specs Nodes are modern geophones that are self-contained. They emit no vibrations, electrical energy or frequencies and are completely passive. They merely record seismic vibrations.

Node Technology vs Traditional Geophones This 1 node (Typically buried just below ground surface ) = This bundle of 12 geophones (Strung out along ground surface)

Node Deployment and Retrieval

Node Layout Traditional Layout Potential hazards: Trip & Fall Vandalism Theft (Montebello comparative test of geophones vs. buried nodes ) Potential hazards: None Same street - buried nodes

Onshore

What is the Final Product Detailed map of the sub-surface: Exact location of faults Better understanding of location of water-tables Knowledge of where liquefaction is likely to occur in the event of any significant earthquake.

Proven Finding of Unknown Faults in the LA Basin Fault Recognition Comparison Passive Earthquake Array vs. Dynamic Dense 3D Seismic Grid   3-D Oil Dan Gish, CEO Steve Boljen, President

Conclusions in Identifying Faults Dynamic Dense Seismic Grid USGS Passive Earthquake Array Acquire High Quality Seismic Data in Densely Populated Urban Areas Acquire High Quality Seismic in Environmentally Sensitive Areas such as Wetlands Data collection in months, not years Proprietary 3D seismic processing allows full use of the data collected in an urban environment. Unique interpretation methods allow discovery of more faults. Widely-spaced fixed stations Data collected over many years Earthquake data rarely results in fault identification Most faults are never identified Resolution is 100 meters at best, which is similar to watching an old 1970’s television. Our modern technology is comparable to 1080 HDTV.
