2009 Standards Committee Elections Information Qualifications, Nominations, and Voting A short presentation for the November 15, 2009 TAS Members Meeting

The last TAS meeting for 2009 will be held on December 13! This is our most important meeting of the year! So be sure to come!

Why is it important? First, it is our annual business meeting! Second, and just as important, we nominate and elect the members of the Standards Committee for the 2010/2011 term.

Who should run for the committee? If you have a reasonable understanding of angelfish genetics, and a good understanding of what makes a superior angelfish, and… If you want to contribute to TAS in a meaningful way… Please consider running for the committee!

Are there any special qualifications? According to the bylaws: ARTICLE VI: Standards Committee Section 1. Standards Committee: The Standards Committee will be TAS's most important committee. It will be permanent and may not be terminated by the Board. It will consist of five members who are in good standing with TAS.

How do you get nominated? First, you need to come to the December 13 meeting! Second, you need to let someone know that you want to run, so he/she can nominate you! Third, once you are nominated, you need to accept the nomination! I nominate…

Can I campaign? Of course you may! A special thread will be set up on the TAS Official Forum for nominees to post your “campaign” statements. You may write about your qualifications, your enthusiasm, or whatever message you want to send out to your fellow TAS members. Why don’t you plan ahead and have a message already drafted before the meeting!

Who is eligible to vote? You must be a member for 45 days to be eligible to vote. ARTICLE II: Membership & Eligibility.  Section 1. Eligibility: (excerpt) Regular and life members shall be eligible to join any committees immediately upon membership, to vote 45 days from the date of their membership and to chair a committee or hold office 90 days from the date of their membership. Junior members are eligible to join any committees immediately upon membership, to vote 45 days from the date of their membership, but are not eligible to chair a committee or run for office until their 18th birthday. Membership will be open to anyone in good standing with TAS who will agree to follow and use the angelfish naming standards established by TAS, and to abide by these bylaws.

How do we vote? Immediately after the meeting, a voting poll will be set up on the TAS Official Forum that will list all nominees. You may vote for 5 candidates. Voting will last for one full week. The 5 candidates with the most votes will serve on the Standards Committee from January 1, 2010 – December 31, 2011.

We want you! So if you are looking for a way to contribute to TAS, why don’t you run for a position on the Standards Committee! If you care about TAS, be sure to come to the meeting, and be sure to cast your vote! Thank you!
