Plot Sequence of events in a story Usually built around a conflict – problem or struggle among characters Most plots develop in 5 stages

1. Exposition Sets the stage for the story Characters are introduced Setting is described

2. Rising Action The plot thickens and the conflict begins to unfold

3. Climax This is the turning point or the point of greatest interest in the story This is where the outcome of the conflict is decided

4. Falling Action All loose ends are tied up Resolves conflict

5. Resolution The story comes to a reasonable ending.

Direct/Indirect Characterization Direct- Author directly reveals the character. Indirect- Feelings, actions,etc. of characters.
